Benchen Monastery, May 3, 2021

Following the advice of HH Karmapa XVII Ogyen Trinley Dorje Chagdzö Tashi Öser, Khenpo Ösung, Sherap Wangchuk, Gyurme Phuntsok and myself went to Ge Nyima, who had been a teacher of His Holiness, at his retreat in Parphing on 29. March. We requested him to teach Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche Yangsi every winter for a few months as advised by His Holiness. Fortunately, Ge Nyima accepted our request.
Furthermore, His Holiness advised Tenga Rinpoche Yangsi to shorten his hair. Rinpoche accepted and now likes to wear short hair very much while it looks good too. Moreover, His Holiness advised that when Rinpoche first arrives in his village in the summer he shall have off without classes and enjoy his life playing with the other children. For further two months in the summer Khenpo Ösung shall be teaching Rinpoche. In the winter time Ge Nyima will teach Rinpoche at the monastery.
Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's family is very fine and is staying in Rö these days.

 Long life prayer for Yangsi Tenga Rinpoche by H.E. The Twelft Chamgon Kenting Tai Situ Rinpoche (Tibetan only)

Last year's wintertime at Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche Yangsi's village Rö there were unusually large amounts of snow as you can see in the pictures taken during the winter season a year ago. We, the Benchen Community, worry that now during this winter there might be similar heavy snowfalls. Such quantities of snow may be too much to bear by the structure of the houses such as the one of Yangsi Rinpoche and his family. Aside from the pending risk of collapsing roofs, last year Yangsi and his family have been snowbound. Their house was completely blocked from all sides. It was only possible to leave through the window once it had been shoveled clear. The family got by using the snow as water source and their food stock which lasted for about ten days.
 
Therefore, this year the Benchen Community strongly wishes to bring Rinpoche along with his parents and siblings to snow-free Kathmandu during the current winter time. His Holiness Karmapa XVII had given his authorization that Yangsi Rinpoche may join pujas, such as Mahakala or Guru Rinpoche Pujas, from time to time for short periods. We have discussed the matter with Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, who believes this to be a very good idea and accepted our wish that Yangsi Rinpoche may stay in Kathmandu for a short while during the winter and Mahakala Puja time.
 
For these reasons Yangi Rinpoche is in Kathmandu right now together with his parents and two siblings spending the winter time there. This time they walked from Rö to Kathmandu. Yangsi's parents think that using a helicopter is good for emergencies or when it is otherwise very necessary to move quickly. They also thought it good for health as much as to enjoy the sights and nature along the road. The hiking group enjoyed a five day walk from Rö to Macha Khola. While Yangsi Rinpoche mostly walked by himself, his little brother was carried by parents and friends. The Benchen Community picked them up at Macha Khola by jeep and brought them safely to Kathmandu. Once the winter is over they will return back to Rö, Yangsi's home village.

Every year Khenpo Ösung travels to Rö village in the summer in order to tutor Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche Yangsi. He says that Rinpoche’s memory is very good. There is a kindergarten in the village that has recently been established by Mingyur Rinpoche. With his Holiness’ permission Tenga Rinpoche Yangsi is attending it since this summer. 

The old man is Rinpoche’s grandfather.

On the pictures you can see Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche’s uncle in the yellow shirt. He has completed the Shedra in Parphing this year. Now he stays in Rö and gives Rinpoche company when his parents are out. The lake is a 45 minutes walk away from Rinpoche’s house.
